The effect of foreign investors on local housing markets: Evidence from the UK
Research by Sá (2017)
Taxplorer is a free, searchable database of the public country-by-country reports (CbCR) published by large multinational enterprises. It brings together more than 2,000 reports from over 1,000 multinational groups, covering financial years from 2014 onwards, and shows for each jurisdiction the revenue, profit before tax, income tax paid, income tax accrued and number of employees that the group disclosed there.
The reports come from two sources. Under Directive (EU) 2021/2101, groups with consolidated revenue above 750 million euros must file a public country-by-country report in an EU business register for financial years starting on or after 22 June 2024; these filings are collected from the registers. A growing number of groups also publish voluntary tax transparency reports on their own websites, many of them following the GRI 207-4 standard; these are collected from the companies' investor relations and sustainability pages. Figures are copied exactly as printed, every value read from a PDF is checked by code against the text of the document, and each number is linked to the file, page and table cell it came from. The methodology page describes each step.
Each multinational group has its own page showing where it books its revenue and profit, how much tax it pays in each jurisdiction and where its employees are. The data documentation, the reports on the first years of the Directive and the academic work based on the database are listed on the research page.
